Shishu Park

The children of today are the future of tomorrow. They are the asset of our nation. So we should take the best care of them. A baby is like a piece of mud; and their parents play a vital role like moulder to make them perfect. Though the parents living in the countryside have no tension about play-grounds, parents living in the urban areas always feel the absence of fields where their children could go in the afternoon to play. There is hardly any open space where children can go to walk, breathe some fresh air and relax. But we know that playing is one of the best ways to make a kid hale and hearty. Therefore, to fulfill the need of open place for children to play and have some nice time, Dhaka City Corporation established a park in 1979 on 15 acres of land which was named “Shishu Park.”
Shishu Park is the only public sector children’s pleasure park located in Shahbag, Dhaka. It is the first amusement park in Bangladesh. It was established only for children. They enjoy the afternoon thoroughly accompanied by their parents. There are many rides to make children’s journey more pleasant.

The 28 rides of the park include a wheel train, a merry-go-round and a number of wheel-based rides. A fighter jet too was provided by the Air Force in 1992. This is the cheapest of all entertainment parks in Dhaka that charges only Tk. 10 as entry fee and Tk. 10 for each ride. It draws about 6,000 visitors a day. During the - Eid ul-Fitr holidays the number of visitors reaches up to 350 thousands.The City Corporation earns about 200 million tk. annually from the park. The park is open on Mondays through Thursdays and Saturdays from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm.On Fridays, it is open from 2:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Every Wednesday, Shishu Park offers free entrance and rides to street children.

Pari Bibi’s Mazar

Dhaka is a land of long, chequered history. Pari Bibi’s Mazar is one of the most impressive historical monuments of the city can claim to its fame. The memorial over the tomb was made by Shaista Khan, the Mughal Subahdar of Bengal. When I first visited the grave, I was thrilled and spilled at its beautiful art and exterior decor.
